I do his everyday, Hocus Pocus is my Steelo

Busy like a bee. I have found time to do fun things, like play midnight 4 square, watch Dexter (I'm addicted!), and play dress up photo time with my friends, but acidemics are taking over.

School is like this parasite that latches on for dear life. I have been extremely busy with my six classes this semester. I'm taking: Shakespeare, Victorian Literature, Once and Future Heroes, Western Civilization, Experimental Film, and Screenwriting. SO, all in all. Loads of reading and writing. I cannot truly complain because I like to read and write, but it makes blogging harder.

Today in my Shakespeare class we were just finishing up discussion on a Midsummer Night's Dream and I'm going to write a paper on the play in comparisson to the 1999 movie. I like how today's media is mostly revolved around reruns, redos, and recycles. This past weekend I also went to go see the movie Easy A. Which, like a Midsummer Night's Dream has Stanley Tucchi in it :), is loosely based on a Scarlet Letter, but not really.
Being in a screenwriting class has made me realize that the idea of things being original, new, or fresh is not only hard work, but also very rare. If things are standing alone, they are always somehow influenced by something or a reminant of something else. I don't mean to get all philosophical, but we were just reading Socrates' Apology in Western Civ. so it's on my mind. I wonder how things can ever truly be untouched, untainted, or uninfluenced by the world we live in.

And Planting Lilacs and Buttercups

I guess it's no surprise that I'm a geek. My major trip of the summer was The Wizarding World of Harry Potter that opened just recently at Islands of Adventure at Universal Studios, in Orlando, FL! It was an amazing experience, I went with two of my friends and we had a blast! The rides, especially the Forbidden Journey ride, were awesome! I was even pleased with the waiting part in lines. I liked how they made waiting in line an experience. While waiting for the Forbidden Journey ride (the one in Hogwarts Castle) you got to go through different classrooms and offices and see things up close from the movie! I really liked the ride, it was probably the best one I've ever been on, but I'm a big Harry Potter fan! Everything at the park was a bit expensive. I got many souvenirs, a Ravenclaw scarf, tshirt, Quibbler glasses, Butterbeer and DA mug, for a high price, but it was worth it! The food was not bad either. I got a rotisserie chicken, corn on the cob and seasoned potatoes all for 10 dollars and it was delicious. Hogsmeade was beautifully built and I'm glad they incorporated things from Diagon Alley! The park was very crowded, especially in the Harry Potter part, but it was overall a great trip! And for the record the Butterbeer taste like butterscotch cream soda with foamy whipped cream on top and it is yummy, and so is the Pumkin Juice!

We live on Fascination. Say the Word.

So, finally catching up on True Blood this morning and I always forget how awesome that show is until I jump right back into it! I read the books when I was younger; before it got to be a tv show and I was thinking that I would read them again! In the books Sookie is way more hard core and not so whiney! I also really like some of the new side stories that they made for the show that were not in the novels. Like Sam's story is expanded with his family, LaFayette was killed in the first book, I really like Jessica and that Tara plays more of a role. I really wonder if they will even touch on the Elvis, oops I mean Bubba, stuff like they do in the books. Overall, one of my favorite shows out there and definatley not as cheesy as Twilight or any of those other vampire diaries, teen sagas. I also love that Charlaine Harris is this average looking middle aged woman, who would be a cute southern soccer mom or something. It's great! The casting on the show was great Alan Ball did a great job! And I most love how everything is moved from the book to the boobtube in such an awesome way!

So enough gushing I suppose...

Looking Glass

So, I wanted to make a blog just for funsies! Mostly it will be about fashion, style, media, the Midwest, my life, music, pop cultural goings-on, and whatever.

Clothes.

I have way too many and the highlight of my summer so far (besides Chicago and visiting my Oma) was the big sale for Urban Outfitters. I bought way too much and then I left for Chicago and went H&M crazy, it made my head explode. In Kansas we don't have H&M so I love when I find one. Shopping is my vice, but it is not a good outlet for my pocketbook. When you are a student on a budget - thrifty is the best buys. I think I started to really like fashion when I was at a young age. I loved to read Archie comic books and Betty and Veronica had fantastical-superduper style! I like things that are interesting, but practical and cute! Someone once told me that my clothing choice is somewhere between a child and an old lady. Maybe that's just because I'm really into florals or because I happen to not dress too slutty, idk.

Summer.

This summer has made me realize a few things.

1) I actually really like school and miss taking all my English and Film classes (weird, I know).

2) My German Grandmother is such an interesting lady, and even though she made me shop at Cato's I can still appreciate her own style that she truly does her own thing.

3) I need to start thinking about my future more. Bagging groceries is not what I want to be doing when I graduate, so next summer I'm going to apply for internships.

4) It used to be so easy being a kid. My sister's two sons are here and they are just so easily amused and are always happy. I want to be like that. I have also been reliving a few cartoon series this summer (Rocko's Modern Life, The Adventures of Captain Planet, Totally Spies) and I have come to the conclusion that shows today are not as good.
xoxo
